Anime NYC held its second ever anime convention in New York City this weekend from November 16-18, 2018. They built on last year’s wild success of 20,000 attendees to reach 30,000+ attendees this year. This increase definitely showed as the convention floor was much more crowded than it was last year. Anime NYC definitely has much more room and potential for growth as they still only inhabit one end of the Javits Convention Center.

My first experience with AUSA was during their final year in their Crystal City location (and was my 2nd convention that I ever went to) before moving to the present location at the Marriott Wardman Park hotel in Washington, DC. I’ve had a lot of fond memories during the years at AUSA so it really pains me to have to write what I’m about to discuss concerning the state of this convention.
Read MoreThe second Colossalcon East indoor water party (also happens to be an anime convention) took place this past weekend from September 7-9, 2018 at the Kalahari Resorts & Convention Center in the Pocono Mountains, PA. In this report I will mostly just talk about my experiences this year and not post very many photos. Read MoreThe 25th annual Otakon anime convention was held this past weekend from August 10-12 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. This is the second year that Otakon has called our nation's capital its home since relocating from its longtime residence in Baltimore. With a year of experience under its belt, Otakon was able to improve on certain areas to make things run more smoothly while also running into new issues and bumbling mistakes.
Read MoreThe AnimeNEXT 2018 anime convention, which was held this past weekend from June 8-10, 2018, is now in its third year at its current Atlantic City, New Jersey home. AnimeNEXT has had a somewhat rocky but decent first two years in its new location but things seem to be looking up in its third year. This year I only attended AnimeNEXT for one day on Saturday but based on the images that I saw on social media about the pre-registration lines on Thursday and Friday, it seems to be a pretty good year in terms of attendance.
Read MoreThe 24th annual Katsucon anime convention was held last weekend from February 16-18, 2018 in National Harbor, MD. Unofficially they may have surpassed the 20,000+ attendee mark for the first time, but of course we won't know until the official numbers are released. Even if they didn't reach that milestone, the halls were definitely more crowded this year compared to last year, and that's certainly a healthy sign for what has become the premiere anime con in the DMV region.
Read MoreWhat is there really left to say about MAGFest that hasn't already been said? The Music and Gaming Festival took place this year from January 4-7, 2018 in National Harbor, MD. It continues its fine tradition of melding video games, music, and gaming culture together for an annual 4-day bash. From concerts, arcades, video games stations, indies, dealers, industry guests, fan panels, and more, MAGFest continues to be one of the best places to celebrate our love of video games (despite the bone-chilling weather!).
Read MoreFor the first time in Anime USA's history, the annual anime convention was held in the month of December this year from the 8th through the 10th. And of course, being December means that it was a Christmas-themed year. Not to be outdone, Mother Nature herself joined the festivities by sprinkling some snow throughout the day on Saturday.
Read MoreThe first ever Anime NYC convention took place this past weekend from November 17-19, 2017 in New York, NY. Despite being the largest city in America, it's kind of surprising that there has been a void in terms of anime conventions in New York City for so long (and no, the New York Comic Con's Anime Festival doesn't count). The con boasted of strong support from all of the anime industry giants in North America and also brought over a number of guests from Japan as well. For its first outing, Anime NYC was a resounding success and I look forward to seeing how it grows in the upcoming years.
Read MoreThis past Saturday I traveled down to Hampton, Virginia to attend my first NekoCon anime convention. The convention took place over the November 3-5, 2017 weekend although I was only there for one day. This medium-sized con is located near the ocean and had a lot of nice locations nearby and a lot of food options to choose from within reasonable walking distance.
