Katsucon 2024 Convention Report - New Leadership Needed?

Katsucon 2024 Convention Report - New Leadership Needed?

I only recently realized that I still haven’t done a convention report for Katsucon in the post-COVID era. Maybe there’s a reason for that. People have different ways to enjoy themselves at a convention and at the end of the day a convention is what you make of it. However, there is definitely a feeling that Katsucon simply isn’t what it used to be.

Super MAGFest 2023 Convention Report

Super MAGFest 2023 Convention Report

The Super MAGFest music and gaming festival returned to kick off the year during the January 5-8, 2023 weekend in National Harbor, MD. After three years of COVID-19 madness this was probably the closest that MAGFest has been to returning to normalcy. Hopefully next year things will truly return to normal.

Katsucon 2019 Convention Report

Katsucon 2019 Convention Report

The 25th Katsucon anime convention took place last weekend from February 15-17, 2019 in National Harbor, MD. This marks the first year that Katsucon has implemented a “Closed Profile” policy which restricts access to the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center only to paid hotel guests and con goers with a membership badge. This new policy was definitely a hot topic of debate in the months leading up to Katsucon and surely will still be subjected to heated discussions in the following weeks.

Super MAGFest 2019 Convention Report

MAGFest 2019 took place this past week from January 3-6, 2019 in National Harbor, MD. What’s left to say about this convention? It’s MAGFest. The crazy large video game, console, and arcade rooms are back. Tons of concerts with video game and nerdy music. Panels, cosplay, and hi-jinks ensue.

Katsucon 2017 Convention Report

Katsucon 2017 Convention Report

The Katsucon 2017 anime convention was held this past weekend from February 17-19, 2017 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, MD.  Katsucon was just as good as past years and once again reminds everyone why it's the premier convention for cosplay.  The amount of cosplayers strutting their stuff was staggering and the quality and creativity continues to be mind-blowing.  There's no question in my mind that Katsucon has firmly supplanted Otakon as the must go-to convention in this region, especially when cosplay is concerned.

MAGFest 2017 Convention Report

The MAGFest 2017 Music and Gaming Festival was held last weekend from January 5-8, 2017 in National Harbor, MD.  There really isn't a whole lot for me to say about this year's MAGFest because it's simply the same great, fun, laid back place for all things video games and music, except continuously bigger.  If rumored speculations are true about attendance this year nearing the 25,000 mark then that is twice as many attendees than the first MAGFest that I attended back in 2014.  MAGFest has become so popular that pre-registration and hotel reservations were being sold out at record paces.

Katsucon 2016 Convention Report

Katsucon 2016 Convention Report

Another year, another Katsucon anime convention.  It's back and it's bigger and better than ever.  Except, this year will forever be remembered for the Fire Alarm Evacuation that upended the festivities and leaving people stranded in sub-freezing and windy weather.  It wasn't all bad though and many positive things happened to make this a memorable experience.  If Otakon was able to survive the Fire of 2010, then I'm sure that Katsucon will survive the Freezing Fire of 2016.

Katsucon 2015 Convention Report

Since it's been almost three weeks since Katsucon ended (and I have extreme short-term memory) this post will be short and sweet.  So I attended my fourth Katsucon anime convention from February 13-15, 2015 held at the National Harbor in Maryland.  As usually I had a great time but things didn't start off too smoothly.
